True. Film is a limited medium in the sense that you only have a certain amount of time to tell a story. A book can have as many pages as it needs and that will end up making a much more detailed story.

Film is limited in some ways, and not so limited in others. Some things are much easier to show literally than to describe, no matter how well-woven the words are. Film is a visual medium, utilizing light and sound.
Literature is different. The fact that books often seem better than the movies based on them is because we already “saw” certain images in certain ways. We’ve already written our own adaptions in our minds.
Adapting a book into film is adapting poetry into literal (if metaphorical) images and sounds. It’s changing the medium. It’s a different beast. The only similarity is that they are both story-telling mediums.
